Description

The MEDICFX Moulage Training Course equips participants with the practical skills to simulate a wide range of battlefield and trauma injuries using professional special effects (SPFX) techniques. Developed in collaboration with the New Zealand Defence Force and delivered by experienced SPFX artists, this workshop focuses on both high-fidelity effects and time-efficient, resourceful “quick and dirty moulage” methods.

Participants will learn to create:

  • Bruises, abrasions, and scratches with bruise wheels, stipple sponges, and fake blood.
  • Lacerations, burns, and shrapnel wounds relevant to contemporary operational environments (e.g., explosive munitions, bullet wounds).
  • Complex trauma effects including fractures, amputations, and blast injuries.
  • Field-ready techniques for situations where time and equipment are limited.

Rough Course Structure (1 Day):

9:00 – Introduction and overview

9:30 – Basics of moulage for medical simulation

10:45 – Hands-on: Bruises and abrasions

1:15 – Hands-on: Lacerations and burns

3:00 – Hands-on: Complex trauma (blast, bullet, amputation)

4:30 – Review, Q&A, and skill consolidation

Outcome:
