IV Cannulation and Phlebotomy Course

This 4-hour course has theoretical and practical components that utilise specialised intravenous training arms. SCPS delivers IV courses only in July and October each year in limited sessions.

Description

This course is open to anyone interested in learning the basic skills of taking blood and IV cannulation. It has been designed and developed to assist those required to safely perform Peripheral Intravenous Cannulation and Phlebotomy as part of their practice.

A Certificate of Participation is awarded upon completing the course, valid for two years. However, this certificate does not qualify you as a phlebotomist. If you wish to become a qualified practitioner, this can be achieved by further training in qualified technical schools and practising blood taking regularly.

Preparation

For participants to gain the most benefit and achieve the course's assessment standards, the online course readings and practice tests must be completed before the course.  Confirmed registrants will be provided with online course access approximately 3-4 weeks before the course date.

The registration closing date is four weeks before the course commencement date.

The course will be held at the Simulation Centre for Patient Safety, University of Auckland Grafton Campus, Bldg 502 Level B, 85 Park Road, Grafton, Auckland 1023.

Please note: a minimum of 10 participants is required for the course. In the event of less than 10 participants, the course may be deferred or cancelled. You may refer to the Terms and Conditions on the website.

Interest in private or group sessions is welcome and will be assessed based on SCPS availability. The workshop can only cater to 1 or 2 groups. The minimum number for 1-group sessions is 10-12 max participants and for the 2-group session is 22-24 max. The schedule or timings will be discussed separately.

The course can only be delivered on-site. Off-shore training enquiries are not accepted at this stage.
